Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency testing in Alberta is available through local laboratory services.
Step 1: Request Alpha-1 Antitrypsin testing using your standard laboratory services requisition form (Calgary Laboratory Services or DynaLIFEDx).
Indicate that Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Phenotyping (Pi Typing) is requested.
If Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Phenotyping is required for familial studies, indicate "Alpha-1 Antitrypsin - Familial Study" on the requisition and samples will proceed directly to phenotyping analysis.
Step 2 (If necessary): In rare cases where phenotyping analysis is unable to yield a definitive interpretation of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin results, consult with DynaLifeDx to discuss available options for full gene sequencing analysis. Contact information for DynaLifeDx can found on their website at www.dynalifedx.com.
In Southern Alberta, testing is requested through Calgary Laboratory Services.
In Northern Alberta, testing is requested through DynaLIFEDx.
Upon completion, a detailed report will be sent back to the requesting physician outlining the test results and interpretation.
